What Is Teen Therapy?

A teen therapy session refers to a counselling session specifically designed for adolescents or teenagers. Teen therapy aims to address the unique challenges and concerns that teenagers may face during this stage of their lives, such as identity development, peer pressure, academic stress, family conflicts, self-esteem issues, and mental health difficulties.

During a teen therapy session, the therapist creates a safe and confidential space for the teenager to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The therapist starts by creating a welcoming and non-judgmental environment, explain the therapy process, and work on building rapport and trust with the teenager. In the early sessions, the therapist may conduct assessments to better understand the teenager’s concerns, strengths, and areas of improvement. The therapist collaboratively set therapy goals with the teenager to focus on specific areas of improvement. The teenager is encouraged to discuss their concerns, emotions, and experiences. This can include issues related to school, family, friends, peer pressure, stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and more.
